The World According to Hayden

Oh, Hayden.

Listening to my kids talk to each other is one of the sweetest gifts as a mother.

The boys were sitting at the table one night eating baked potatoes.

Between big bites of food, Hayden and Anson started a conversation about “talking to yourself.”

After they had discussed this whole idea amongst themselves, Hayden blurts out…

“Mom…Anson talks to himself.”

I say… “That’s ok. I do too…and it’s fun.”

Hayden immediately says…

“Oh…hey…I talk to myself too. Like when I’m dancing I say, ‘Way to go Hayden. You’re really good. And when I’m playing the x-box, I say, ‘Man, you’re really good at this. You're awesome.’”

So funny…and so honest.

We are still not done with our Halloween candy. Every day, after lunch, if they “ate big” then the kids get a piece.

Hayden got a sucker today.

He came in my room, I looked at his face covered in sucker and said, “Hayden, will you go get a wet wipe and bring it to me so I can clean you up?”

While I was wiping his face, I said, “Child, why….why are you so messy? How can you do this with just a simple little sucker?”

I thought this was a rhetorical question.

Nope.

It had an answer.

Hayden immediately said, very matter of factly…

“Well, because sometimes I put the sucker in my mouth like this (he pantomimed). But sometimes, I take my sucker out and rub it all over my face.”

I just looked at him and shook my head.

He laughed.

This kid.
